Shares gain for third successive session

The Dhaka stocks closed marginally higher Thursday, the week's last trading session, extending the gaining streak for the third consecutive session.
On the day, investors' participation comparatively increased that helped featuring a turnover close to Tk 7.0 billion at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
The market opened positively and the DSE broad index DSEX closed the session with a marginal rise of 0.30 per cent or 17.04 points to close at 5534.42 points.
According to EBL Securities, the market started in an upbeat tune as opportunistic investors spurred their buoyancy to inject fresh funds on sector specific stocks, especially in bank and pharmaceutical & chemical sectors.
"The premier bourse observed a winning session and edged higher amid optimism. Investors' buying sentiment continued till the end of session," said the EBL Securities.
The shariah index DSES rose 0.41 per cent or 5.26 points to close at 1273.94 points while the blue chip index DS30 shed 0.19 per cent or 3.87 points to close at 2034.71 points. Of the total number of issues traded, 173 advanced, 110 declined and 39 remain unchanged.
