Meat traders defy DCC-fixed prices

FE Report
Traders are charging higher prices for their meat at different markets in the city, defying the rates fixed by the two Dhaka City Corporations.
After visit to some kitchen markets in the city, this correspondent found that beef was selling at Tk 450 per kilogram against Tk 420 fixed by the city corporations while mutton was selling at Tk 700 per kg, up by Tk 130 than the price set by the DCC.
Even though the city corporations asked the traders not to push up the meat prices until 26th Ramadan, they have increased the prices in different kitchen markets much before the deadline.
Traders say meat prices are likely to go up by at least Tk 50 per kg during Eid-ul-Fitr.
According to the traders, consumers have to pay more to get fresh meat during the festival and the prices may remain unchanged even after the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.
A number of customers have urged the authority concerned to monitor the market on a regular basis aiming to keep the meat prices stable in the market after Eid.
