Agrani acting MD, two others on remand

FE Report
Agrani Bank acting managing director Mizanr Rahman Khan and his two colleagues were remanded Friday for three days after their Thursday's arrest over a lending scam.
Khan, the state-run bank's Deputy Managing Director, was arrested Thursday shortly after he was made acting MD as a stopgap measure following the MD's sacking hours before.
The course of serial action got off sharp in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) earlier in the day.
The Agrani Bank managing director (MD), Syed Abdul Hamid, was removed over loan irregularities.
A Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court Friday placed Mizanr Rahman Khan and his two colleagues on the remand for interrogation in custody over the charge of loan scam.
The two others on remand are Deputy General Manager of the bank's principal branch Akhtarul Alam and Assistant General Manager Shafiullah.
Metropolitan Magistrate Nurun Nabi passed the order after a petition was submitted by ACC deputy director Benazir Ahmad for seven days' remand each.
Mr Benzir Ahmad had filed the case with Motijheel Police Station against those three and five others at around 1:00 pm Thursday over irregularities in disbursing Tk 1.08 billion to Moon Group.
The DD of the anti-graft watchdog soon led the drive of arrest of the bankers in a prompt action.
In 2014, a Bangladesh Bank inspection found out that Agrani Bank had disbursed the loan to the Moon Group owned by businessman Mizanur Rahman for construction of three buildings with unapproved structural designs.
The BB inspection team had detected that the company did not complete construction process of even one building, although the officials concerned of the Agrani Bank released the loan against the three buildings.
