The nation celebrates the 40th Independence and National Day today (Saturday) to pay tributes to the three million martyrs, who sacrificed their lives during the country’s great War of Liberation.

On March 26, 1971, the independence of Bangladesh was formally declared that led to the nine-month long bloody War of Liberation against the Pakistani occupation forces. The war finally culminated in the emergence of a sovereign and independent Bangladesh.
