The 56th Director General-level Border Conference between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India’s Border Security Force (BSF) began today at the BGB headquarters in Pilkhana, Dhaka. The four-day conference is scheduled to continue from August 25 to August 28, 2025.

The Bangladesh delegation, comprising 21 members, is led by BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui. Alongside senior BGB officials, the delegation includes representatives from the Office of the Honorable Chief Advisor, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Shipping, Roads Division, Land Survey Department, Joint Rivers Commission, and Narcotics Control Department.

The Indian delegation, consisting of 11 members, is headed by BSF Director General Shri Daljit Singh Chowdhury, IPS. The team also includes senior BSF officials, as well as representatives from the Indian Home Ministry, External Affairs Ministry, and the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.

The conference will focus on a wide range of issues, including preventing border killings, push-ins, and illegal infiltration. Both sides will discuss measures to curb cross-border crimes such as drug trafficking, arms smuggling, and the movement of other contraband.

Other key topics include implementing developmental activities along the border, preventing unauthorized infrastructure construction within 150 yards of the international border, and preserving the banks of border rivers while ensuring equitable water sharing. Joint initiatives for the Integrated Border Management Plan will also be discussed, along with efforts to address tensions caused by recent anti-Bangladesh propaganda in the Indian media. The conference will further review bilateral and border-related interests of the two countries.

The four-day event will conclude on the morning of August 28, 2025, after which the Indian delegation will return to India.
