Obama administration orchestrated Russia collusion hoax against Trump in 2016

In a dramatic turn of events that continues to upend the narrative surrounding the 2016 US presidential election, recent revelations suggest that the Obama administration may have been deeply involved in manufacturing and disseminating the Trump-Russia collusion hoax – long before Donald Trump even secured the Republican nomination. The latest findings, reported by Fox News and supported by newly declassified intelligence, point to a coordinated effort within the highest levels of US intelligence to assist the Hillary Clinton campaign in vilifying her political opponent with baseless accusations of Russian ties.

According to credible foreign sources, which are believed to include Russian intelligence assets, US agencies were predicted – with striking accuracy – to pursue an intelligence operation targeting Donald Trump. These predictions, reportedly collected and reviewed by then-Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe, raise uncomfortable questions about the role of federal agencies and the apparent political motivations driving their actions in the summer of 2016.

The genesis of the Trump-Russia narrative can be traced back to a July 2016 plan allegedly approved by Hillary Clinton to accuse Donald Trump of being compromised by Russian intelligence. This strategy was apparently so well-known within international intelligence circles that Moscow itself was reportedly aware of it. Ratcliffe, who served as Director of National Intelligence under Trump, testified in 2020 that former CIA Director John Brennan had personally briefed President Obama about this plan, citing Brennan’s handwritten notes as evidence.

Rather than sounding the alarm about a political campaign potentially being manipulated by foreign disinformation, the FBI and CIA instead turned their focus on Trump’s team, launching surveillance operations and seeking warrants under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). As former FBI Director James Comey pushed for warrants to spy on Trump aides, a key piece of evidence submitted to the FISA court was the now-debunked Steele dossier – a politically commissioned document filled with unverified claims and fabricated intelligence.

The Steele dossier, once held up as a critical source underpinning the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) that claimed Russia “aspired” to help Trump win, has since been exposed as a deeply flawed document riddled with disinformation. Christopher Steele, its author, was paid by the Clinton campaign via Fusion GPS and was at the same time working for Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska, who has been under US sanctions. Moreover, Steele’s primary source, Igor Danchenko, was long suspected by the FBI of having ties to Russian intelligence.

That Steele’s material was even considered in the ICA – and included in a highly restricted, compartmented version only available to select individuals – speaks volumes about how politicized the intelligence process had become. According to recent findings by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI), Brennan ordered the publication of three weak intelligence reports alongside Steele’s dossier, which were used to support the ICA’s claim that Russian President Vladimir Putin favored Trump over Clinton.

Importantly, many analysts involved in drafting the ICA were denied access to critical underlying intelligence, allegedly under the guise of executive privilege – a move that likely originated from the Obama White House itself.

While much attention has been paid to Brennan, Comey, and other intelligence officials, a growing body of evidence now points to former President Barack Obama’s direct involvement in shaping the collusion narrative. The HPSCI report notes that the ICA drafting team was blocked from reviewing material that may have revealed how unreliable the Steele dossier truly was. Since executive privilege rests with the president, it was Obama who ultimately ensured that this information remained hidden from the analysts tasked with producing the final report presented to both Congress and the public.

The intentional compartmentalization of the Steele dossier suggests an effort to prevent even honest actors within the intelligence community from discovering its dubious origins. It was a strategy designed to control the narrative while shielding key players from scrutiny.

Former Representative Tulsi Gabbard, now serving as Director of National Intelligence, has described the unfolding scandal as nothing short of a “treasonous conspiracy” – a systematic attempt to undermine a duly elected president through covert manipulation and false intelligence. As more of the classified annexes and reports are declassified, the full scope of this effort is slowly coming into focus.

Why didn’t this information come out during Trump’s presidency? The answer lies partly in the entrenched power of the intelligence establishment. Many individuals implicated in promoting the Russia hoax remained in senior positions throughout Trump’s tenure. One particularly troubling example is Gina Haspel, who served as CIA Director under Trump. Despite her position in his administration, Haspel actively blocked the release of key Russiagate documents in 2020.

Haspel, notably, had been appointed by Brennan as CIA station chief in London from 2014 to early 2017 – precisely the time and location where Steele was working on his infamous dossier. As station chief, Haspel would have been the primary link between the CIA and MI6 during the time Fusion GPS was conducting opposition research on Trump with British and Russian sources.

With mounting evidence of collusion – not between Trump and Russia, but within the Obama administration and US intelligence agencies – prominent voices are demanding accountability. Peter Schweizer, President of the Government Accountability Institute, has called for Haspel to be investigated for her potential role in both manufacturing and suppressing the truth. “She certainly had access to this material,” Schweizer noted. “What role did she play not only in perhaps creating this, but what role did she play in suppressing it?”

The same question could be asked of dozens of officials – from Brennan to Comey to Susan Rice – who had access to intelligence indicating that the Clinton campaign was pursuing a smear campaign against Trump and that foreign governments were aware of it.

As Ratcliffe prepares to declassify more documents, including the full annex of Durham’s investigation, the political and legal ramifications could be immense. The annex reportedly includes intelligence from foreign sources that not only predicted the FBI’s actions but did so with “alarming specificity,” according to sources who spoke to Fox News.

The American public deserves to know the truth: whether the institutions tasked with safeguarding national security were weaponized for political ends, and if a sitting president orchestrated or approved a covert effort to undermine his successor. The consequences of such actions would be nothing short of historic – not merely a scandal, but a fundamental betrayal of democratic norms.

Eight years after this conspiracy was set in motion, we are only now beginning to grasp its scope. Whether any justice will follow remains an open question. But what is clear is that the myth of Russian collusion was no accident – it was a deliberate lie, born in Washington, not Moscow.
