One wonders if anyone still thinks Hamas would release over 59 Israeli hostages in its captivity and become a partner of peace in Palestine! History bears out Hamas is, by its very nature, a barbarian organization. It has had little space for the values of humanism, pluralism and peaceful social coexistence that are cherished in modern civilized states. The central ideology of Hamas continues to be to kill Jews in Palestine and impose Sharia rule in the entire region.

Hamas has made it amply clear that it would not release the remaining hostages. It has asserted it would do so only in exchange for the release of the Palestinian prisoners from the Israeli jails. Hamas has said it would do so only if Israel agreed to a lasting ceasefire and withdrew its forces completely from the region.

Observers say the terror outfit has no compelling reason to release the hostages today. In the recent war Israel launched against Hamas, it has hardly been   exhausted. It has of late regrouped itself very fast.  The Jewish State has done well to have intensified its operations against the terror outfit in the Gaza Strip. It must stay the course until the devil is obliterated completely. Israel must speak to Hamas only in the language of force. That is the only language the terror outfit would understand. There is absolutely no point resorting to the language of reason and dialogue while dealing with Goliath today.

The observers counsel Israel would better not entertain any idea of releasing any of the Palestinian prisoners, who are serving life sentences for murder and other serious offenses, from its jails. Such elements, if released, are likely to join the Hamas fighters in their future war against Israel.

It would be naïve to be oblivious of the   past behavior of Hamas. The terror outfit might claim in its interactions with the Western world that it is for a Palestinian state living in peace alongside Israel. But, in practice, it would never cease to claim the whole of Palestine, from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea.

The observers add Jerusalem may rope in democratic capitals, such as Washington and New Delhi, to devise appropriate strategies aimed at dismantling Hamas and sidelining the states, such as Iran, Turkey and Qatar, that have been backing the terror outfit.  All democratic states would do well to join Israel in eliminating Hamas. The terror outfit poses a common threat to the existence of all democratic states and their core values in the contemporary world.  The democratic states must join Israel also to reach out to the common Gazans. For too long, the masses in the Gaza Strip have lived like slaves. Under the rule of Hamas, they never had access to an atmosphere for their right to multifaceted development.
