Her inability to articulate coherent policies and avoid gaffes has been a consistent hallmark of her tenure as vice president.

Yet, what’s most concerning about Harris’s recent public appearances isn’t just the awkward moments or flubbed answers-it’s the dangerous lack of competence she exhibits on critical issues like national security, foreign policy, and America’s global standing. At a time when the world is facing a multitude of crises, including conflicts in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, the United States needs strong leadership at the highest levels. Her performance on The View, where she was asked if she would have done anything differently than President Biden over the past four years, was particularly revealing. Harris seemingly could not recall any of the administration’s glaring failures, such as the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan or the failure to prevent the Ukraine conflict from escalating. Even the Biden administration’s mishandling of domestic issues, like inflation and hurricane responses, were absent from her thought process. This lack of self-awareness, or even basic awareness, is worrying to say the least.

Harris’s failure to articulate a coherent response is not just limited to domestic issues. When questioned by CBS’s Bill Whitaker on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s refusal to heed the Biden administration’s advice, Harris offered a vague, almost nonsensical explanation: “Well Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by, or a result of, many things – including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region.”

The vice president’s lack of clarity on one of the most sensitive geopolitical issues of our time is a serious concern. If Harris can’t clearly explain her administration’s approach to Israel, how can she be expected to handle even more complicated issues, like the rise of China or the nuclear threat from Iran? When asked by Whitaker about America’s “greatest adversary,” Harris didn’t mention China-the obvious answer-but instead named Iran. This mistake further solidifies concerns that Harris is woefully unprepared to navigate the complexities of international relations.

Perhaps one of the most baffling moments of Harris’s media tour occurred during her interview with Howard Stern. Stern, a radio personality known for his blunt, often irreverent style, asked Harris about Ukraine. Rather than offer a straightforward response, the vice president launched into a confusing anecdote about her upbringing, saying, “I grew up in the neighborhood. Some would say you’re getting punked if you stand in favor of somebody who’s an adversary over your friends on principles that we all agree on.” The nonsensical answer left many listeners scratching their heads.

Harris’s penchant for garbled responses is nothing new. Her infamous word salads have become a hallmark of her public appearances. These verbal acrobatics, as some have called them, aren’t just a matter of poor communication-they signal a deeper problem of incompetence and a failure to grasp key policy issues. Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville, known for his bluntness, didn’t mince words when discussing Harris’s recent media appearances. On October 10, he expressed frustration, saying, “This is something that I think [the Harris campaign] screwed up … I’m getting increasingly pissed off about it.” Carville’s comments reflect a growing sense of disillusionment within the Democratic Party about Harris’s ability to rally support ahead of the upcoming election.

What makes Harris’s failings so alarming is not just that she’s a poor communicator. It’s that she holds one of the most powerful offices in the world, with the potential to become the next president of the United States. In an era of rising global instability-from Russia’s aggression in Ukraine to escalating tensions in the Middle East-the country cannot afford a leader who struggles to string coherent sentences together, let alone formulate a sound foreign policy.

Kamala Harris has shown, time and again, that she is not up to the task of leading a nation, especially one as complex and powerful as the United States. Her recent interviews only solidify the image of a politician who is both intellectually outmatched and dangerously unprepared for the challenges of the office she holds. If Democrats are dismayed by Harris now, they should be truly terrified by the prospect of her leading the country in the future.
