A delegation of Sikh Americans has told visiting Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman that the separate Khalistani movement has weakened due to the steps taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the interest of the Sikh community.

The delegation, led by Jasdeep (Jassi) Singh and Kanwaljit Singh, felicitated Sitharaman by presenting her with traditional Saropa, mementos and a bouquet of flowers.

Praising the Modi government for implementing several demands of the Sikh community in the last nine years, Jassi Singh also said that due to these steps of the Prime Minister, the Khalistani movement in America has weakened.

In a statement released to the media after the meeting with Sitharaman, Singh was quoted as saying, “There are only a handful of Khalistanis in the whole of America because of which the entire Sikh community is being defamed.”

The delegation said that Sikhs are nationalists and stand with united India and all issues related to Sikhs will be resolved within the framework and constitution of India. The statement said that he requested the Finance Minister to waive off the huge debt incurred by Punjab during the militancy and demanded that Punjab be declared as an enterprise zone where investments can be made in industries so that the youth of Punjab have a better future. .

During a meeting with a delegation of ‘Overseas Friends of BJP Team’ led by its national president A Prasad, Sitharaman spoke about how the Modi government has transformed India and taken it on the path of progress.

The Finance Minister said that in order to maintain this steady growth and fulfill Modi’s dream of India’s ‘Amrit Kaal’, it is necessary for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Modi to win an absolute majority in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
