A fire broke out at an electric connection box in front of the residence of Dhaka University vice chancellor on the campus Friday morning.
An electrical short-circuit sparked off the fire around 9:00am.
On receiving information, firefighters from the Plassey fire service station rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control within half an hour, Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) official Nazma Akter told the FE.
The firefighters also recovered equipment worth Tk 0.2 million while the loss was estimated at around Tk 5,000, she added.
Witnesses said power supply and internet connections were disrupted on the campus immediately after the fire.
