Flood situation may worsen

While several parts of Bangladesh are already under grip of floods, more areas are likely to be inundated by flood water.
Sarder Udoy Raihan, an official of Flood Forecasting and warning Centre (FFWC), said, "As major rivers are in rising trend, different parts of country might be flooded during the next few days."
"Northeastern parts of the country have been badly affected by the ongoing flood. Floodwater may engulf more areas in the region, if the trend of heavy rainfall continues," he said.
Floodwater may inundate low-lying areas of southeastern parts of the country as water levels of the Halda and Matamuhuri rivers have risen sharply due to heavy rainfall and onrush of water from the upstream, he added.
Incessant rains since last night led to heavy water-logging in different parts of Dhaka city, including Shewrapara, Malibagh, Motijheel, Purana Paltan, Fakirapul, Arambagh, Shatinagar, Rajarbagh and Kazi Para areas, causing sufferings for commuters.
