Three BCL men face arrest warrant in Sylhet

A Sylhet court on Sunday issued an arrest warrant against three activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) unit in a case filed for sexually harassing an SSC examinee.
Judge of Sylhet Women and Children Repression and Prevention Tribunal Mohitul Haque Chowdhury passed the order after accepting a chargesheet against the SUST unit BCL president Sanjeeb Chakrabarty Partho and two other activists –- SN Sazzad Hossain and Mahmudul Haque Rudra, reports UNB.
Besides, the court also asked the authorities concerned to transfer the case to the children’s court from the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal as the age of the victim is 16.
On April 8 last, the SSC examinee girl of nearby Pathantula High School had gone to the SUST campus to visit her cousin and was stalked and assaulted physically by some BCL activists in the Shaheed Minar area of the university.
The BCL men also beat up two journalists as they protested the harassment.
Later, the victim’s mother filed a case against the three BCL men and seven-eight unidentified people with a court on the day. [Read More]
