Didar Boli champ for 14th time

CHITTAGONG, Apr 26: The 108th episode of Chittagong's traditional Jabbarer Boli Khela and Boishakhi Mela was held at the city's Laldighi Moidan on Tuesday.
Defeating Shamshu Boli, Didar Boli became champion for the 14th time.
Masud ul Hasan, additional police commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, earlier inaugurated the programme. Leading mobile phone operator Robi Axiata Ltd was sponsor of the event this year.  
Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation AJM Nasir Uddin was present as chief guest and handed over trophy to the winner and other participants at the end of the competition.  
Robi's cluster market director, Eastern Cluster Market, Nozir Ahmed was present on the occasion as special guest. Abdul Jabbar Smriti Kusti Protijogita O Boishakhi Mela Committee president and ward councillor Jaharlal Hazari and general secretary Shawkat Anwar Badal were also present.
In keeping with the tradition, the competition started in a festive mood with the music of Dabar, a kind of folk drum and Sanai, folk flute. Thousands of people gathered to witness the wrestlers slugging it out in the ring.
Boli Khela was introduced in the early twentieth century by Abdul Jabbar Sawdagar. His desire was to cultivate a sport that would engage the youth in constructive activities.
A week-long Boishakhi Mela has been arranged in the Laldighi area on the occasion and people are visiting the fair to buy rural products displayed in stalls.     pankajdastider@gmail.com [Read More]
