Two JMB suspects die in \’shootout\’ with police

Two suspected members of the banned Islamist militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were killed in a so-called gunfight between his associates and police at Nikhilpara village in Sherpur upazila under Bogra early Monday.
One of the deceased was identified as Khaled, military commander of northern region and resident of Nachole upazila of Chapainawabganj while the identity of the second suspect could not be known yet.
Tipped off that a group of JMB leaders and activists were staying in the area, a team of police conducted a drive there around 3.30am, said senior assistant superintendent of police (media) Gaziur Rahman.
Sensing the presence of police, the JMB men opened fire on them prompting the law enforcers to retaliate, triggering a gunfight, Gaziur said.
He said Khaled and his one associate were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while their other associates managed to flee the scene.
Later, police recovered the bodies from the spot. They also recovered one pistol, four bullets and huge bomb-making equipment, according to a news agency.
