There are reports of gunfire and explosions at the American University of Afghanistan in Kabul.

Eyewitnesses reported that attackers have infiltrated the school where many teachers and students are believed to be trapped inside.

Afghan officials say they are sending in security forces to respond to a “complex” attack. Eyewitness told VOA that they have seen Afghan Special Forces rushing towards the scene shortly after the first explosion.

There are no details of casualties or claims of responsibility from militant groups.

Earlier this month, an American professor and his Australian colleague were kidnapped at the school. No group claimed responsibility for the kidnapping and the professors whereabouts remain unknown.
