Maersk mulls splitting group

Danish conglomerate A.P. Moeller-Maersk A/S is looking into splitting its operations and abolishing the umbrella Maersk Group that is currently running the company, Chairman Michael Pram Rasmussen said Thursday.
“The question is whether we have the right structure or whether we should change it,” Mr. Rasmussen said in an interview.  “Our companies are self-running, so the consideration is whether they should operate as independent units. Some may also be listed.”
Earlier Thursday, Maersk replaced group Chief Executive Nils Andersen with Soren Skou, the current chief executive of Maersk Line, the world’s biggest container operator in terms of capacity.
“The new CEO will take on the task of the possible new structure,” Mr. Rasmussen said. “This may include abolishing the group” as an umbrella structure.
