Stop polls violence, urges Nirmul Committee

Ekattorer Ghatak-Dalal Nirmul Committee, a forum demanding trial of 1971 war criminals and their exemplary punishment, has demanded the Election Commission to curb polls violence effectively.
A team of the committee led by its acting president Shahriar Kabir, placed a 7-point demand before Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad at the latter’s EC secretariat office on Thursday.
The demands include arrest of criminals in vulnerable election areas, deployment of adequate BGB members alongside regular law enforcers in the risky areas, deployment of members of the armed forces in some particular cases and setting up makeshift police camps in or nearby election areas, according to a news agency. -bz
