Rampant evasion of VAT in Bangladesh

At Gulshan and Banani area, there are hundreds of posh restaurants and food stores, whose daily sale is at least TK. 150,000-200,000, while some of them has daily sale of TK. 400,000-500,000. While these restaurants and food stores pay TK. 400,000-900,000 per month as rent for the space and additional amount for staff salary, utilities bills etc, most of these business establishments show TK. 100,000-150,000 as monthly sale, which is impossible. The intelligence wing of National Board of Revenue should immediately collect copies of the rental agreements from these business establishments, wherefrom their real monthly income can be easily ascertained. At Gulshan area, at least two hundred post restaurants and food stores such as Pizza Hut, KFC, Coopers, Khana Khazana, Topkapi, Steamboat, Arirang, Steak House, Bukhara, Dish & Desert, Sajna, Domiok, Soi 19, Pearl etc are having daily sales of more than TK. 300,000, while they do not show even five percent of the real business in the prescribed money receipt with the ulterior intention of evading VAT. Same thing happens with the super stores in most of the areas in the city, who though are collecting the amount of VAT from the customers, they are refraining from paying the same to the national exchequer.
