Quick Rental Power Plant project failing in Bangladesh

The Ministry of Power and Energy has been mobilizing TK. 40,000 crore [US$ 5.88 billion] to generate 5,000 MW of electricity to reduce load shedding into a tolerable level within next three years during the term of the present government, which came in power in January 2009. Under this plan, Power Development Board [PDB] was supposed to generate 500MW gas-generated electricity between July-December 2009. The PDB was also supposed to hire furnace-oil based 1000MW electricity from private sector during January-June 2010.
