Detained former power secretary Engineer ANH Akhter Hossain was sentenced 10 years to prison by a special court yesterday for concealing information about his assets and amassing huge wealth through illegal means.
Delivering the judgment, judge Amal Kumar Roy of the special court-2 at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban complex, also fined him Tk 1,00,000, in default to suffer three months more in jail. Besides, the court, trying high profile corruption suspects, sentenced Akhter’s wife Nazneen Akhtar to three years in prison with fine of Tk 50,000 for aiding and abetting her husband in amassing property illegally.
