A fast-track anti-graft court Thursday jailed Dhaka city ward commissioner and cine-villain Monwar Hossain Dipjol, who is on the run, for eight years for tax dodging.
Pronouncing the verdict, Judge AK Roy also fined the convict to pay Tk 3.50 crore or suffer six months more in jail.
Besides, the court ordered the government to confiscate his property worth Tk 12 crore.
The National Board of Revenue filed the case against Dipjol, also a city BNP leader, on charges of evading taxes.
This is the third conviction of Dipjol, who is facing around a dozen criminal cases, including murder and land-grabbing. [Read more]
