Pabna people badly suffer from severe waterlogging

PABNA, July 6: Incessant raining in last four days brought immense sufferings to the residents of the Pabna municipality as the rainwater logged everywhere in the municipality area due to the lack of proper drainage system.
Due to the lack of drainage system rainwater logged at Shalgaria, Shibrampur, Dilalpur, Chatiyani, Housepara, Awrangajeb Area and most of the residential areas of the Pabna town. People of the affected areas could not go outside from the house due to the immense waterlogging for last couple of days.
Md. Mostafizur Rahman Russel, a resident of Shalgaria said waterlogging is a common problem in this area. Municipality authority however does not take any step to remove waterlogging, he alleged.
"Rainwater could not be removed from the area due to the lack of proper drainage system. Most of the drains damaged due to the lack of maintenance," Russel said.
Not only the residential areas but also the key roads and markets of the municipality areas went under water due to incessant raining for last few days. Awrangajeb road, the key road of the Pabna Municipality (municipality market, New market located in this road) has undergone in rainwater.
Same picture found everywhere in Pabna Boro Bazar road, Nimtola road, Kalachandpara road, Beltola road, Ghoshpara road, Shalgaria area, Mozahid Club area and other roads of the district headquarter.
Md. Abul Kashem, a shoe shopkeeper of the Awrangajeb road area said the rainwater overflowed his shop and most of the shops of the market due to the immense water logging in the road.
Md. Tabibur Rahman, executive engineer of Pabna municipality however claimed this is common problem in the rainy season.
"Rain water logged for few times but the water removes within few hours so there is nothing to be worried of that. As the raining continues so the water logged in different areas" Tabibur Rahman said.
Asked about poor drainage system in the municipality area Pabna municipality mayor Kamrul Hasan Mintu claimed the Pabna municipality is yet to get fund for constructing new drains and maintaining other drains in last couple of years.
