CCCI hails budget

CHITTAGONG, June 01: Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has hailed the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2017-18 placed at Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday.
In an instant reaction to the budget, CCCI president Mahbubul Alam said VAT (value added tax) exemption on basic food items including rice, pulses, sugar, fish, meat, vegetables, milk, salt etc and life-saving drugs, public transport services and public health is very positive.
He said the government's steps to construct the 16 kilometre Lalkhan Bazar-Chittagong Airport elevated expressway to reduce traffic congestion, double-lane project of the Dhaka-Chittagong railway corridor and extension of the Dohazari-Cox's Bazar-Ghundum rail line project as demanded by the CCCI will immensely contribute to the national economy.
He said individual tax-free income ceiling that has been kept unchanged at Tk 0.25 million should be enhanced as the tax-free income ceiling for women and those above 65 years of age at Tk 0.30 million should also be enhanced.
