Ten cos capture 24pc of DSE transaction

Top ten traded companies Monday captured more than 24 per cent transaction of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) while Argon Denims topped the chart.
Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stood at Tk 6.32 billion on the premier bourse on the day, which was 14 per cent lower than the previous session.
Argon Denims, United Power, LankaBangla Finance, FAS Finance, Doreen Power, Baraka Power, Ratanpur Steel Re-rolling Mills, National Feed Mills, International Leasing and Financial Services and Saif Powertec were the most-active shares in terms of value on the DSE.
Of them, share price of five companies advanced up to 9.82 per cent while share price of five companies fell up to 2.24 per cent.
According to statistics available with the DSE, some 5.46 million Argon Denims shares were traded, generating a turnover of nearly Tk 203 million, which was 3.21 per cent of the day's total turnover.
The denim maker's share price hovered between Tk 36.40 and Tk 37.60, before closing at Tk 36.60 each on the day, registering a decline of 0.54 per cent over the previous day.
Recently, Shah Adeeb Chowdhury, one of the directors of the company sold 700,000 shares of the company at prevailing market price through stock exchange.
The company, which was listed on the Dhaka bourse in 2013, disbursed 10 per cent cash and 15 per cent stock dividend for the 18 months period from January 01, 2015 to June 30, 2016.
In nine months for July, 2016 to March, 2017, the company's earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 2.70 as against Tk 1.94 for the same period of the previous year.
The company's paid-up capital is Tk 1.14 billion and authorised capital is Tk 1.50 billion, while the total number of securities is 114.26 million.
The sponsor-directors own 38.95 per cent stake in the Argon Denims, while institutional investors own 18.95 per cent, foreign investors 2.37 per cent and general public 39.73 per cent as on April 30, 2017, the DSE data shows.
United Power featured a turnover worth nearly Tk 189 million, capturing 2.98 per cent of the day's total turnover value. The power generation company's share closed at Tk 170, losing 2.24 per cent over the previous day.
LankaBangla emerged as third with shares of Tk 170 million changing hands, which was 2.68 per cent of the total turnover. The company's share price advanced 1.17 per cent to close at Tk 51.70 each.
FAS Finance notched the fourth spot, with shares of Tk 150 million changing hands, grabbing 2.37 per cent of the day's total turnover value. The company's share price jumped 9.82 per cent to close at Tk 19. It was also the day's highest gainer.
