Alleged extremist dies in internal conflict

PABNA, Jul 23: A listed extremist was hacked to death in Santhia upazila of Pabna on Saturday noon.
The deceased was identified as Md. Nur Islam, 40, son of Abdul Hakim of Bondiramchar village in Santhia upazila, police said.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Santhia police station Md. Nasir Uddin said locals found the body near the Haludgar bridge of the upazila and then informed the police at around 12.00pm. Police rushed to the spot and recovered the body.
"Criminals might have hacked him to death and dumped the body at the spot," the OC said.
The reason behind the murder was not clear immediately, but the police guessed that an internal conflict of the extremist group might be the reason for the murder.
Police sent the body to Pabna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The victim was accused of extortion and robbery cases filed with different police stations. He was one of the top listed criminals and had been living in hiding for long, the OC added.
