Rescue workers rushed to Canacona in India's western Goa province after a three-story building, still under construction, collapsed on Saturday.
At least 14 people were killed and several others injured in the collapse.
The reason behind the collapse is not yet known, and chief minister of Goa, Manohar Parrikar, assessed the site along with other officials and cranes were brought in to clear the rubble.
A shortage of cheap homes in Indian cities has led to a rise in illegal construction, often using sub-standard materials and shoddy methods.
In April 2013, a building collapse killed 72 people in Thane, just outside Mumbai. Officials said that the structure was built with poor materials and did not have proper approvals. [Read More]
