Palestinian President Accepts Prime Minister’s Resignation

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has accepted the resignation of his newly appointed prime minister.

Abbas’ spokesman said Sunday the president has asked Rami Hamdallah’s to stay on in a caretaker role until a replacement prime minister can be found. Hamdallah abruptly resigned last week over a conflict with his deputies.

The prime minister served just two weeks on the job, disheveling the Palestinian Authority at a time when Abbas is focusing on a U.S. push to restart peace talks with Israel.
