Leaders of Honduras’s two most violent street gangs called a truce Tuesday and apologized for their crimes.

Top members of the Mara Salvatrucha and Mara 18 gangs held separate news conferences from their prison cells in San Pedro Sula.

The gang members say their truce is with God, Honduran society, and authorities. The members said all they want are jobs and the chance to be rehabilitated.

A similar pact in neighboring El Salvador has resulted in a drop in violence.
