Chile Orders Area Around Volcano Evacuated

Chile has ordered a mandatory evacuation of a 25-kilometer radius around Copahue volcano on the border with Argentina.

The 2,965-meter volcano, located in south-central Chile’s Bio Bio region, has seen increasing seismic activity in recent weeks, but has not erupted.

Chile’s Interior and Security Minister Andres Chadwick says about 2,200 people will be evacuated.

In neighboring Argentina’s Neuquen province, access to the volcano is closed within four kilometers.
