President Barack Obama says he will appoint Julia Pierson as the first woman to head the U.S. Secret Service, the agency that protects the president and his family.
Obama said Pierson is eminently qualified to lead the Secret Service, and she has had an exemplary 30-year career with the agency.
Pierson is currently the Secret Service Chief of Staff. She began her career as a police officer in Orlando, Florida. Her appointment does not need Senate confirmation.
