Nelson Mandela Hospitalized for Medical Checkup

South African peace icon Nelson Mandela has spent the night in a hospital.

South Africa’s presidency says Mr. Mandela was admitted to the hospital Saturday for a scheduled medical checkup.

Presidential spokesman Mac Maharaj says the 94-year-old went to a hospital in the capital, Pretoria. Maharaj says there is “no reason for any alarm” as doctors conduct tests on the Nobel Peace laureate and former president.

Mr. Mandela was hospitalized in December for a lung infection.
