Cattle smuggling from neighbouring India to Bangladesh continues unabated along the 4,096-km border, despite increased surveillance by the security forces in recent days.
Official sources apprehended that it might be further increased in the wake of upcoming Eid-ul Azha.
Cattle trafficking during darkness is a common feature in the bordering areas. Although the border forces have made a number several arrests over the years, the trafficking of cattle could not be stopped.
Sources close to the cattle trade said about 15 lakh cows are smuggled to Bangladesh from India each year. [Read More]
