The High Court yesterday issued a three-week rule upon the government to explain why the Martial Law Regulation, under which Col Taher was sentenced to death in 1976, should not be declared unconstitutional.
The court directed to produce records of the trial that sentenced also 10 others to different terms of imprisonment in connection with a sedition case.
Special Martial Law Tribunal, made under the regulation, sentenced 11 persons including Maj Jalil, Prof Anwar Hossain, Abu Yousuf and Col Taher, the petitioners’ lawyer Dr Shahdeen Malik said. [Read More]
