DMP bans rallies, processions on city streets: Apparent move to contain opposition programmes

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police slammed a ban on all public meetings, protest rallies, processions and any other programme on the streets of Dhaka metropolis with effect from Monday until further order.
According to a DMP press release issued yesterday, by the DMP Commissioner AKM Shahidul Haque, meetings, processions or demonstrations on the roads caused traffic congestions in the capital, which also increased intolerable sufferings to the commuters in their day to day life.
