Mahmudur awarded 6 months in prison

The Supreme Court yesterday sentenced detained Amar Desh Acting Editor Mahmudur Rahman to six-month imprisonment on charge of contempt of court.
The six-member Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Mohammad Fazlul Karim also fined him Tk one lakh and one month more imprisonment in failing to pay the fine. The contempt of court charge was brought against Mahmud and four other journalists of the daily for publishing a report titled ‘Chamber means stay in favour of the government (Chamber manei sarker pakhhe stay)’ in the Bengali-language daily Amar Desh on April 21 this year.
