About 1,000 prisoners were set free yesterday from different jails across the country what jail authorities said was the largest mass release in a single day in the history of the nation.
Brigadier General Mohammad Ashraful Islam Khan, inspector general (IG) Prisons told reporters that the inmates, who had already served 20 years imprisonment, were released from 68 jails of the country.
The prisoners were released under Section 569 of Prison Code, which grants amnesty to prisoners who are elderly or have showed good conduct, he said. [Read More]
