117 perish in worst fire disaster: Blast in chemical godown in densely populated old Dhaka caused the tragedy

The death toll of the devastating inferno rose to 117 as more burnt bodies were recovered yesterday from the fire-hit multistoried buildings in Nimtoli Lane of Nawab Katra in the old part of the city.
Forty two people, mostly women and children, were critically injured in the blaze that broke out in a chemical factory in the densely populated city area and quickly spread to the adjacent buildings and shanties, Fire Service and Civil Defense sources said. [Read More]
