Zardari asked to quit after amnesty blow

Pakistan faced fresh upheaval Thursday after a court annulled an amnesty protecting President Asif Ali Zardari and ministers from corruption charges, prompting calls for his immediate resignation.
The Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday that a 2007 decree passed by ex-military ruler Pervez Musharraf was unconstitutional and struck it down, paving the way for thousands of investigations to be revived. Pakistan’s corruption commission moved Thursday to reopen the cases, while the government said it was looking into how to implement the decree. [Read more]
