Loan default: HC declares Kashem’s seat vacant

A bench of the High Court (HC) yesterday declared JS membership of Abul Kashem of fourteen-party alliance, elected from Tangail-5 constituency, illegal and void on the grounds of loan default. The court also ordered the Election Commission (EC) to declare Maj Gen (retd) Mhmudul Hasan, a candidate nominated from four-party alliance, elected MP as he got the second position in the seat in the parliamentary election of December 29.
