The government Thursday banned Islamist outfit Hizbut Tahrir Bangladesh and put up countrywide surveillance to thwart any backlash against the preventive action, official sources said.
When contacted, Home Secretary Abdus Sobhan Shikder told UNB that the group was banned on the basis of intelligence report about their moves and motives. “Their activities are against law and order and also pose a threat to public security,” he said.
The Home Secretary informed that Hizbut Tahrir has also been banned in different countries of the world. [Read more]
