The House yesterday demanded the scrapping of the parliament membership of ex-Speaker barrister Zamiruddin Sircar and legal actions against him, former Deputy Speaker Akhtar Hamid Siddiqui and ex-Chief Whip Khandaker Delwar Hossain on charges of corruption involving Tk 2.5 crore and abuse of power during their previous tenure.
Legal and departmental actions against officers and employees involved in abetting the corruption were also demanded.
The demand was raised during a general discussion initiated by Awami League MP Advocate Fazle Rabbi Mia, the chief of an all-party parliamentary probe body that investigated the charges against the trio. [Read more]
