The China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) is likely to enter into an agreement with Bangladesh’s government-controlled PetroBangla to search for oil and gas both on and off shore.
According to a report published in a Bangkok weekly The Irrawaddy,
the deal follows a visit by senior CNPC officials to Dhaka earlier this year and Chinese government promises a US $1 billion loan to Bangladesh.
The dispute arose between Myanmar and Bangladesh as the maritime boundary between them remains undefined under international demarcations defined by the UN’s Law of the Sea boundaries. [Read more]
