Former Secretary M Azizur Rahman has been appointed first Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of Bangladesh to
establish the long-cherished watchdog body meant for ensuring people’ s right to know all relevant matters of public interest.
Another retired government Secretary, M Abu Taher, and Prof Sadeka Halim of Sociology Department of Dhaka University have been made commissioners.
“President Zillur Rahman has appointed the chief information commissioner and two commissioners for the Information Commission as per The Right to Information Act 2009,” a government announcement said yesterday. [Read more]
