Three dacoits were killed and another was seriously injured in mass beating at Gangchil under Companiganj upazila of the district on Saturday night.
Police and witnesses said the villagers nabbed four robbers when they were fleeing after committing robbery in two houses near Hashem Bazar at dead of night.
As the mob beat the dacoits severely, Mostafa, 40, Main Uddin, 35, and Momin Ullah, 38, died on the spot and another dacoit, Azad, received serious injuries.
