The Election Commission has cancelled 1,080 nominations of 481 Upazila Parishad for elections to as many local government bodies slated for Jan. 22, an official said on Friday.
Initially, the EC has validated 8,896 candidates.
Md Abdul Baten, senior assistant secretary at the EC Secretariat, told bdnews24.com, of the cancelled candidates 523 stood for chairman, 370 for vice chairman and 187 for woman vice chairman posts.
As many as 9,976 candidates have submitted nomination papers for the three posts. [Read more]
