The announcement of the dates of Parliamentary and Upazila elections by the government has let loose drum beating by those who eagerly await those. Nobody looks like being opposed to the elections but the two major political groupings - the Four-Party Alliance and the Mohajote - led by the BNP and the AL respectively have demonstrated that they are miles apart in respect of the Election Commission-mooted amendment to the Representation of the People Order, 1972.
The Awami League supports the proposed amendments while the BNP opposes those. [Read more]
