A court here on Wednesday sentenced two people to death and nine others to life term imprisonment in sensational seven-murder case in Lalbagh in the city. The condemned convicts Abdus Salam and Zahid Hossain were tried in absentia.
The lifers are Abdul Alim, Munna, Kalu, Delwar Hossain, Amir Hossain and four others - Monir Patwari, Dil Mohammad, Mahtab Hossain and Mozammel - were also tried in absentia.
According to the prosecution, the supporters of the defeated ward commissioner candidate Abdul Aziz attacked a victory procession of winning candidate M Humayun Kabir with arms killing seven people on January 30, 1994 just after the election of Dhaka City Corporation. [Read more]
