Govt plans 3 lakh tons rice import from Myanmar : Eyes also on Thai, Vietnam markets

The Government has proposed the Myanmar authorities to import 300,000 metric tones of rice from that country annually to off set regular food shortage in the country.
Visiting Bangladesh delegation headed by Foreign Secretary M Touhid Hossain at a bilateral meeting made a formal proposal in this regard to the Myanmar delegation led by its Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Kyaw.
The meeting between Bangladesh and Myanmar took place in Nay Pyi Taw in Myanmar, on Tuesday. This was the 3rd Foreign Office Consultation, a highly placed official sources said in Dhaka yesterday.
