Against the backdrop of prevailing food grains shortage and countrywide rising trend in rice price, the Advisers’ Committee on Public Purchase yesterday approved import of 75,000 metric tones of rice to meet the local demand.
The committee also approved seven more procurement proposals including setting up of seven makeshift rental power plants for a three-year period.
As per proposals placed by the Food Ministry to the Cabinet Purchase Committee, the rice will be procured from international markets under two separate offers. [Read more]
