Rising prices of rice pose threat to food security of poor

Prices of different varieties of rice have increased by Tk 4 to Tk 5 per kilogram in the markets in a week, aggravating the sufferings of middle- and low income groups of people in the country.
According to economists, if steps are not taken immediately to control the price hike of rice, it will appear as a threat to the country’s overall food security.
They said that the prices of rice, which is generally the staple diet of lower and middle class people, have increased substantially.
